Sub Station II will open another Columbia location at 928 Main St.

COLUMBIA — Sub Station II, a sandwich chain with locations across the Southeast, will open another location in Columbia.

The newest location at 928 Main St. is set to open Feb. 15 in the former space of Which Wich, owners confirmed to Free Times. The longtime sandwich shop, a stone's throw from the S.C. State House and the University of South Carolina's campus, was popular with politicos and college students alike. It closed late last year.

Sub Station II has a half-dozen locations across the Columbia area, but this will be the first downtown. The sandwich chain offers a standard menu of classic subs and a handful of salads, according to its website.

The new Main Street location moves in a few months after Which Wich vacated the space.

It's coming to an area of the city that's undergoing major renovations, which are set to widen South Main Street and make it more pedestrian-friendly.

The $23 million project, a partnership between the University of South Carolina, the state Department of Transportation and the city of Columbia, began just shy of a year ago. It's expected to be completed in June 2025, The Post and Courier previously reported.

The restaurant will be open from Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
