LEXINGTON — Following a tumultuous nine months, neighborhood Italian restaurant Alodia's in Lexington has been closed by the state's Department of Revenue for its failure to satisfy state tax liens.

The restaurant group, owned by Adam Huneau, owed tens of thousands of dollars in state tax liens, according to the state's revenue department.

Two LLCs associated with the businesses — which operated one location in Lexington and one in Irmo — were listed as owing $58,753 and Huneau himself, the business's personal representative, was listed as owing $37,902.

The Lexington restaurant specifically owed more than $40,000, but has brought that balance down to $13,244.99, according to a spokesman for the Dept. of Revenue.

Huneau did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Post and Courier.

Typically, state revenue departments will impose tax liens on businesses in an attempt to collect outstanding debt.

News of Alodia's closure was first reported by The State newspaper.

The closure comes just a few months after the restaurant's Irmo location permanently closed. It's less than a year after the eatery, in the heart of downtown Lexington, drew backlash on social media after a waitress' Facebook post detailed a delay in pay for multiple employees and led the staff of the restaurant to walk off the job.

Four months later, the state's labor department fined the restaurant $2,100 for failing to pay 18 employees on time, resulting in over $4,000 in late pay.
