A new Korean restaurant is in the works for 929 Gervais St., a newly restored building in between Nonnah's and Panera in the Vista.

Online job ads for bar, floor and kitchen staff describe 929 Kitchen as "the first modern Korean gastropub located in the heart of Columbia, SC," offering "a blend of traditional favorites and new-Asian cuisine."

The website for 929 Kitchen offers no further information other than a timer counting down to, if our math is correct, dinnertime on Feb. 13.

Free Times has so far been unable to reach the business owner. However, the building's real estate agent, JP Scurry of Colliers, confirmed the project, as did Congaree Vista Guild director Meredith Atkinson. Atkinson said her organization is excited about the project.

"We are certainly not lacking in restaurants, but we are excited to have something different," Atkinson said. "Obviously people come to the Vista, they love to eat and drink."

Scurry also noted that he's signed a lease with an unnamed tenant for another ground floor space in the same building.

Built in 1911, the property is sometimes known as the Mais Oui Building. It recently underwent a historic renovation.
