Former state Rep. Jim Harrison was funneled cash from corporations and lobbying interests when he was in office, according to information shared Wednesday during Harrison's ongoing trial. Harrison is a target in Special Prosecutor David Pascoe's long-running State House corruption probe. The former lawmaker faces charges of conspiracy, misconduct in office and lying to a grand jury. According to Andrew Brown at The Post and Courier, evidence at trial seemingly connects Harrison's work for consulting firm Richard Quinn & Associates to corporations like SCANA and AT&T. The trial is continuing Thursday.

Police: Man Lied About Car Being Stolen With Children Inside

Columbia Police say that a man who reported his car was stolen while two children slept inside filed a false police report. Authorities say Darrell Kendell Shealy's car was reported stolen at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, and that he claimed his kids were asleep in the car at the time. However, that story came unraveled as the day went on, and the suspect allegedly admitted he was intoxicated when he made the report. One child was found safe at their babysitter's, and the other was safe at school. “We have dedicated a lot of resources and man hours, an aircraft and technology. We pulled resources from other assignments,” Police Chief Skip Holbrook said, per The State's Teddy Kulmala and Emily Bohatch. “It’s just been a very frustrating day to have this. We are glad that the children are safe of course, but this is something that’s unacceptable and we will hold Mr. Shealy accountable for his actions.”
