The University of South Carolina climbed up a couple spots in U.S. News and World Report's undergraduate rankings. It is 46th among all public institutions (up from 49th last year) and 25th among state flagship schools. This is the fourth consecutive year in which USC's overall ranking has improved. “We know that rankings don’t tell the whole story of an institution, but it is gratifying to see USC moving in the right direction in some important quality measures,” says USC Provost Joan Gabel.
Irma Socks South Carolina
Thousands of people in South Carolina remained without power Tuesday morning in the aftermath of Irma, the powerful storm that ravaged Florida and battered the Palmetto State. More than 50,000 SCE&G customers remained without power statewide as of Tuesday morning, according to The State. Meanwhile, Duke Energy reported 87,000 customers were without power as of Tuesday morning. The storm has now headed off to the northwest and Gov. Henry McMaster was expected to lift evacuation orders for coastal counties on Tuesday.
Iconic Folly Boat Washed Away by Irma
The Folly Boat, a vessel that was swept ashore 28 years ago by Hurricane Hugo and went on to become an icon near Folly Beach, was washed away by Irma. The boat, which was painted and repainted countless times through the last 30 years, often with messages in support of sports teams or political candidates, among other missives, floated away Monday afternoon. It was spotted for a while later near a dock not, too far away, but police didn't know of its whereabouts as of Monday evening.
Time Set for USC-Louisiana Tech Game
The Sept. 23 football game between the University of South Carolina and Louisiana Tech will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium. It will be the second home game of 2017 for USC. It will be televised on the SEC Network.
