The owner of the Five Points Chick-fil-A wants to launch a satellite location to sell food to downtown lunchers at the corner of Main and Lady streets.

"We would have signage and just a small footprint and be offering limited menu items during lunch," manager James Bennett tells Free Times.

He referred to the proposed site as an ADP, or "additional distribution point." All the food would be cooked at the Five Points restaurant.

"It's just another avenue to serve people who can't get all the way to Five Points," Bennett notes, also citing the Five Points spot's long lines at lunch.

A Chick-fil-A used to occupy the building right across Main from the proposed site, at 1301 Main St.. It closed in 2012, just as downtown development was really heating up. A thriving Cantina 76 location now occupies that space.

Columbia City Council must hold a public hearing and vote on any proposed sidewalk vendors. A hearing on Bennett's site is set for Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
