Here Are Some Valentine’s Ideas

Save the candy and roses for Friday night, ladies, and get with your girlfriends Thursday night at Art Bar for Galentine’s Day, a dance party and fundraiser for Girls Rock Columbia. There’s going to be a photo booth, a Galentine’s card craft table, door prizes, dancing and drinking. Art Bar and the Girls Rock Columbia ladies know how to bring the party, so this should be a great time for all. The party starts at 9 p.m., and there’s a $3 suggested donation at the door. Some Salt-N-Pepa will be played, yes?

Looking for something different to do with your date for Valentine’s Day? Look no further than The Red Door Tavern, which will be hosting a Murder Mystery Party. It’s like a live version of Clue where someone dies, and everyone else has to figure out who done it. This is your chance to show off your Sherlock skills for your Valentine. I love it when bars think outside the box, and this is another different (and free) event that the Red Door people put together. Just arrive at the bar by 7 p.m. to play.

Another great and different Valentine’s event happening in Soda City Friday night is the South Carolina Pride Sweetheart Gala at EdVenture Children’s Museum at 8 p.m. There will be a cash bar by Ketel One and Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, music by DJ Trevor D, and performances by Columbia’s own Veronica la Blank and Ru Paul’s Drag Race season three winner Raja. Guests are encouraged to dress with a prom theme. The Sweetheart Gala is one of the most fun parties you can find on Valentine’s, and this is the kick-off for the 25th Anniversary of SC Pride, so it’s going to be big. Plus, if you have never been to an EdVenture After Dark party, you’re missing out. There’s nothing like seeing a bunch of adults set loose in a children’s museum after a cocktail or two. Admission is $15 at the door.

Finally, make sure to swing by Terra sometime this week and get your Manhattan on. Bartender Andy Haddock has been aging some Woodford Reserve in charred-oak barrels since December and will be using it to make special Manhattans that are sure to be extra tasty.
