Brooklyn’s beers, like those of many breweries in the Northeast, are strongly influenced by English and German brewing practices and ingredients. The brewery’s current seasonal, the Summer Ale, is based on an archaic English style called light dinner ale, which was intended to be flavorful but not heavy.

Brooklyn’s version is perfect for hot weather and outdoor activities. The beer has lively carbonation with beautiful floral aroma from its cocktail of English, German and American hops. The flavor is beguiling; lightly toasted English malts have surprising depth and tasty breadiness that is beautifully accented by delicate floral hop flavors.

While many craft brewers are making fruit-flavored beers as summer seasonals, this beer — along with Harpoon’s Summer Beer — are two of the best all-malt beers for summer refreshment. Check the dates, though — the subtle flavors do not age well. Cheers!
