If you haven’t noticed this little barbecue joint, tucked inside the same building as a convenience store and gas station across from Williams-Brice Stadium, you really should. Not just because it’s open Monday through Saturday, though that’s a good reason, since many barbecue huts make you wait until the weekend to scratch your meaty itch. And not just because it serves beer with its ‘cue, including the Conquest Artemis Blonde shown here ($4), though that’s an excellent reason (because, beer). The real reason for this week’s Bite: it’s refreshing to see pulled pork that’s tender and moist from the inside of the muscle fiber, not from the sauce on the surface, which in this case, is the house vinegar-pepper sauce. Bits of smoky, spice-laden bark clinging to the ends of some of the meat are an added bonus on this half-pound plate of barbecue, which comes with two sides. To celebrate its one-year anniversary, Cock Pit announced a Customer Appreciation Luncheon on Facebook, offering an all-you-can-eat buffet, May 29-30, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
