what: grilled stuffed lamb chop
cost: $13 (dinner)
where: Mo Mo’s Bistro, 2930 Devine St., 252-2700
This week’s Spanish-influenced Bite is from the small plates section of the menu at Mo Mo’s Bistro, but it’s hardly what one would call small: a bone-in lamb chop, butterflied and stuffed with plenty of herbed goat cheese, and cooked to your preferred temperature. (Mine came out medium rare, as requested.) The juicy lamb chop is served with a dab of pesto and a mild piquillo pepper, chorizo and tomato sauce, as well as pickled and grilled white asparagus. Sticking with a budget, and the Spanish theme of this hearty first course, I opted for a glass of the always-affordable Borsao Garnacha ($5). While I was eating, crooners Ross Holmes and Aletha Jacobs sang classic American songbook covers to the dining room, which seemed to be peppered with many of their fans from their residency at the erstwhile Dianne’s on Devine. The duo will be playing a Christmas-themed show at the restaurant on Monday, Dec. 23; for reservations, call the restaurant at 252-2700. Mo Mo’s is open for lunch Monday through Friday, for dinner Monday through Saturday, and for brunch on Sundays.
