Lawsuits Filed Over Chemical in Drinking Water in SC Town

Two lawsuits have been filed against the town of Denmark, which reportedly put an unconventional chemical in its drinking water for a number of years. As noted by Sammy Fretwell at The State, for a decade Denmark put a chemical called HaloSan in its drinking water in an effort to clean iron slime in a town well. HaloSan is typically used to disinfect hot tubs, and has rarely been used in municipal water systems. Attorney and former state Rep. Bakari Sellers filed one of the lawsuits against the town. “The money that you all paid to the city of Denmark for water should be returned to you, and it should be returned for the past 10 years,’’ Sellers told a crowd at a recent community meeting, per The State. “We do believe you are entitled to those funds back.’’
