Leading SC Economic Index is Highest in Six Years

South Carolina’s leading index of economic indicators hit a six-year high in October, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce. With a value of 101.24, the index indicates improving economic conditions over the next three to six months in the state. The Department of Commerce stated that any value over 100 indicates that the economic climate will continue to improve over the next several months.

Boeing Chooses Orangeburg Aerospace Supplier for 737 MAX Assembly

Aerospace giant Boeing has selected GKN Aerospace to produce winglets for its 737 MAX airplane, according to the Charleston Post and Courier. GKN, which is based in England, has a production facility in Orangeburg that will figure heavily in the assembly of the advanced technology part. Wingtips in the 737 MAX are designed to reduce drag and help the aircraft fly better over long distances. The GKN plant in Orangeburg opened last year with 75 employees, and that number is expected to swell to 300 over the next several years. Currently, the Orangeburg facility assembles all-composite fuselages for Honda’s Hondajet light business jet.
