Good story but you kind of side-skirted one of the biggest reasons it's so popular: not because it's legal, but because it doesn't show up on a drug test. So many people quit smoking simply because they want to keep their job. They would like to be able to partake responsibly just like people who drink alcohol responsibly. The problem is, if you smoke, you'd better not have a test in the next month or you're going to fail. With alcohol, the test could be the next day and you'll pass. I'd like to hear them say we should look into decriminalizing the real thing. It's been extensively studied for decades (and used for millenia) so we know it's not going to make you "grow a third arm" and it's not toxic unless you smoke your body weight in one sitting. If people could use the real thing and not worry about random drug testing, then there would be absolutely no market for this drug. Once again, the war on drugs is forcing people into behaviour infinitely riskier than actually smoking pot. When will we realize that pot is the safest drug out there? It's also the easiest to grow and has many industrial and medical uses beyond getting high.

It's illegal if you smoke or otherwise ingest it. That's why it's "incense" that's "not for human consumption." Usually, it's impossible to convict anyone, because the police would need proof that someone consumed it and there's no test for that. Unless, the person was stupid enough to write a front page article about how they consumed it, and distribute that article for free. Good job, geniuses.

Most K2 incense sold nowadays is fake anyway. Read more: http://k2incense.org/fake-k2.html

Sigh, you are flat out wrong. Just because something is not for human consumption doesn't mean it is illegal to smoke it.

Good to read an article putting this topic in the limelight for midlands readers. Also, good journalism. I liked how you guys got a nice sampling of different people trying the various kinds and examined the effects. I'm with Higher Ground on the thought that the war on weed is rediculous. If for no other reason than it pushes the issue further into light, I'm glad this synthetic stuff is popping up. Frankly, myself, I don't think I'll go for the synthetic. Chemicals? ....I guess I prefer mine well researched. The fact that I drink red bull makes me feel like I polute myself with too many things I don't understand already. Just last night a camel cigarette salesperson (likely bored to tears cause they can only pass out coupons now) was telling me camel had already produced its first marajuana cigs "for when they're legal." I don't know how much validity there is behind that, but hell, it was enough to make me chuckle :) Thanks Free-Times!

I have always agreed that legalizing marijuana would only help our country, but I still think that all this press about how k2 is poison is funny. Have any of you ever seen the old media clips that were played when marijuana became popular? They were absolute propaganda. Who can say wether or not this synthetic weed is safe? We damn sure know that almost every legal prescription or over the counter drug can kill you or cause cancer, but where is all the hype over these? I would much rather have the real thing than synthetic, but I have a job with random drug tests and in this economy, its the only job I will be able to have for a while. So, unless you have facts about how "toxic" this stuff is, please keep your mouth shut and dont ruin a good time.

I wonder if you could cook with it. Make brownies and such. You all need to do some more testing. lol

Good article but what makes me laugh the most is on my screen, at the top right is a hugh BUD LITE AD. Would rather be around 100 people smoking Marijuana or this fake weed stuff. then be around 1 drunk.. US IS LOST.

i tried it and it works. dont like the taste though. so i only use the kgb now. screw the republican reich making alcohol and tobacco legal but not anything else. lets make it illegal too and its more money for the new drug trade only accessible to the people and not the govt taxes. i say make being a christian illegal.

Yeah, overall I would say it is pretty close to good chronic. I make my own cheap pot at home :) Just let me know at draygonia at gmail dot com if you are in the Columbia area and wanna try it / buy it. I'll be opening up a carolinas site and a usa site for sales nationwide (to all but georgia, alabama, missouri, kansas and kentucky where it is illegal.)

Despite the effects that any synthetic weed may have on the user, I'd be hard pressed to try anything other than the real thing. Hopefully it'll be legalized sooner than later for the benefit of many. It's 2010 and I can still buy a pack of smokes and a 6 pack, but still can't buy a natural substance that has never killed anyone....boy..oh...boy, we have such a long way to go.

Meanwhile, pharmaceutical companies are running ads all day long on television for their drugs and the listing of the possible side effects of these drugs takes up over half of the freaking commercial! While I think a ban is ridiculous and highly hypocritical, I do think people need to wise up. This website warns of k2 incense counterfeiters, http://www.k2incense.org but you KNOW there has to be more than that.
