I'm sorry that I dont agree with your writhing and wriggling and flopping about on the Koger Center stage comment or the fact that some 70 odd dancers were crowding the stage. Instead I William Starrett for giving these children the opportunity to grace the stage in as many professional ballet preformances as possible. Not given the chance to dance in these shows may keep these children from reailzing their true potential as dancers in the future. I believe they are not just put there to fill space but to encourage them to continue with their studies and have a chance to see what they can become. As for Mark Krieger I am thinking your vision must have been clouded by Victoria Cholkas exceptional dancing for without Mr. Krieger Ms. Cholkas could not have preformed the way she did. His preformance as the prince was as outstanding. Columbia is lucky to have such a talented male dancer and should work hard to keep him. Please remember that fish do flop, but to me and many other members of the audience this ballet didn't. Thank you William for once again bringing the visions in your head to life for all of us to see!

First let me say that in William Starrett, Columbia City Ballet has a director willing to take risks and create visual stories found only in a larger metropolis - do we not believe the people walking around with animal heads on sticks in Broadway's The Lion King of Mali are animals? Second, I find it sad that so many times the imaginations of grown-ups do not allow them to simply believe and enjoy. In reference to the statement - "Cholkas rebounded like a professional in Act II during her pas de deux with the prince, danced by a less-than-committed Mark Krieger" - there is no ballet dancer more committed than Mark Krieger. He has performed flawlessly in all ballet performances, going above and beyond expectations. To the statement -"Why crowd the stage with dancers of demonstrably lesser abilities, watering down the visual impact for the simple sake of putting bodies on the stage?" - Columbia City Ballet has as part of its mission to prepare the younger citizens of this state for the ballet stage if that is their desire. How can they possibly be prepared if they are not allowed on the stage? As to the crowding, the scene was an attempt to create a realistic underwater picture - it did that. And finally - "Is this kind of optimism appropriate for a professional ballet company, or should patrons of such be guaranteed professional-quality dancing for the price of their theatre seats?" - if patrons are so unhappy with the performances of Columbia City Ballet, why is it consistently voted the "Best Ballet Company" in Columbia?

I personally think this was one of Mark Krieger's best performances & he showed a remarkable balance between technically demanding dancing & partnering & truly acting the part. He looked manly & princely throughout the sequences on the ship & truly looked passionately in love with Victoria during all of their interaction. And beyond that, every reviewer is entitled to their opinion, but to call any dancer "uncommitted" without saying anything to back that up just makes you sound ignorant.

Dear Prima Ballerina Boiter, Your reviews are appreciated. Assuming your dance career is still active, I am surprised by some of your comments. I am sure when you partner, you can feel the difference between the experienced partners and the inexperienced. An excellent partner mirror images the dancer. Yes, you are correct,, Ballerina Choklas rebounded like a professional in Act II during her pas de deux with the prince, Mark Krieger. This might have been the finest performance. Figure out why. Could it be the partnering? Aren't your pas de deux better with an experienced partner? jms-
