Folks !!! Leave this beautiful flag alone !!!
A compromise has been made and agreed upon a long time ago. Yes, it's a battle flag of all Confederate soldiers. It's currently at a historical site, right beside the statue which pays tribute and homage to the brave men who had to fight off idiots like yourselves. Hootie, go suck on a blowfish, perhaps you'll absorb some intelligence.
All who are against this symbol of Southern history and pride should be ashamed of themselves !!!
To those who share my opinion and perspective...Keep her flying high !!! Never let your beautiful flag fall or be taken down. Thousands have died for this flag. Remember, cherish, honor and never let others step on your beliefs !!!

hey canadian confederate there are no flags on either the upper or lower canadian rebellion against the british flying over government buildings in canada. there are exhibits in museums, however as is appropriate.
sc lost lost approximately 5000 men in the war to protect states rights to expand the slave trade to newly opened territories. hundreds of thousand of africans died on the middle passage being involuntarily brought to charleston. if anyone deserves more recognition it is the memory of these slaves.

how about flying the "Freedom" banner carried by slaves during the Stono Rebellion? far more slaves died on the middle passage on the way to charleston than lives lost in the war to defend slave holder rights to expand slavery to newly opened territories.
the canadian confederate should know the upper and lower canada rebellions in the 1830s are commemorated in museums, not in banner flying on or over government buildings and grounds.

Why fly a flag celebrating a "history" of and "pride" in slavery, genocide, torture, and terror? Of course, by that standard, why fly the American flag?

Not everyone living here in Columbia wants the place they call home to be identified or associated with that flag or any of what it represents (Good or Bad) anymore. It is time enough now to put the old, tired and outdated images aside and build a new symbol that more accurately represents us as people.
I understand there's a great deal of history and pride that goes with that flag, but it is for those reasons that it belongs in a MUSEUM, NOT in front of a current, modern establishment of Government. It is the year 2010! There has not been a "confederacy" or any other such group under that banner in South Carolina for nearly THREE (3) DECADES! Why should it stay in such a prominent location in FRONT of the Statehouse?? It doesn't belong there! It doesn't represent me or you. It barely represents anyone still living. It represents anger and resistance to change and progress. For these reasons it should be taken down.
