Build it, finance it until the end of time and add another burden to the city taxpayers. Maybe the city can reduce spending in other areas like sustainability, etc etc to pay for it.
They budget a lot already but it is not enough, never enough.
Cut more employees and give the MHA operational funds.

If the Salvation Army had not been in that location, many recovering clients would not have had the access to the supporting businesses who gave them second chances and employed them. Many lives were changed and many lives will be changed with the MHA being located within walking distance to the different services that their clients will need. The city is only putting a band-aid on the homeless issue and making it easy for the homeless to remain homeless. Most of the homeless have income and because they have no responsibilities, they rent hotel rooms just to be able to sleep in a bed for a few nights. MHA would be able to educate and offer new alternatives with the programs they would implement and the building of a facility would clean up the down town area substantially and create a jobs. Some-one has to run the shelter, over-see the programs and cook for the clients. This facility would also give the homeless to learn to care for themselves. Finlay Park would not have so many people sleeping in it and crime would go down. Granted there are some that would resist and would rather remain homeless but they are the mentally ill and a downtown facility is greatly needed. Who am I? I benefited from the downtown location and am now in my fourth year of recovery and is very grateful for having the chance to reconnect with society. They need a hand up not a hand out. Think what state mankind would be in if Jesus had given up and came down off the cross or if He had determined that the location of His life, ministry, or even His death was inconvenient. Please let your hearts be your guide and not your wallets. The return will be far more greater than you can ever imagine.
