Councilman Finlay, thank you for your service to the community, and for your commitment to fiscal prudence. Your common-sense attitude and devotion to sustainable and responsible city budgets will be sorely missed.

Thank you Councilman Finlay for being the voice of truth.
You spoke honestly about our budget deficit while
other candidates sugar-coated it.
You were the right one to lead Columbia out of
this sinkhole of debt.
Your understanding of environmental issues got my vote. You walk the talk. I thank you for that.

Kirkman and his father both arose from a long line of people dedicated to this city and state and their progress. I believe that the Hamptons are connected somehow. It is a great legacy of service.
Throughout it all, he acted like one of the Stoic senators of Republican Rome (Cato comes to mind), sitting on a hard bench in the Senate house in the Forum and studying treasury accounts. He was a watchdog of public funds and an advocate of good government.
In the apotheosis of Benjamin, the departure of Kirkman got little notice and less press. Thank you Free Times for a final salute.
As for Columbia, future years with the new Mayor and council, bend over, grasp your ankles, turn your head and repeat after me, "This won't hurt a bit!"
