nothing new here. at least since the reagan years government at all levels has moved toward ever more regressive taxes to protect the wealthy and labelled those opposed to such action as unamerican and certainly unpatriotic. after all who does not favor a decreasing percentage of the population owning an ever increasing percentage of the wealth as the key to america's future greatness.

You mention collecting sales tax on the $4 billion in internet sales as an afterthought. Those sales, many made because there is no sales tax, takes the business away from local businesses that pay local taxes and employ local people, especially low- to middle-income earners. The 'sales tax on Internet purchases' issue is not just about the $500,000,000 in lost revenue to the state that it has to make up some other way (like higher taxes??). It's about fairness and jobs. Go talk to Congress. They are sitting on the bill that will allow states to collect this "fairness" tax.

You do realize this is South Carolina, right? You have about as much chance of passing a tax on the wealthy here as you do of getting a anti-handgun law passed. Why not run an anti-war liberal for Governor while you're dreaming?
