S.C. Rep. Joan Brady of Richland County told a group of political leaders and economic development officials tonight that Boeing has agreed to open a production facility in South Carolina.

Brady was speaking to officials and others gathered at an Engenuity SC Ignite event held in Columbia. Among those at the event were USC President Harris Pastides and Mayor Bob Coble.

South Carolina officials have been lobbying fiercely for a production facility that will reportedly produce 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

“Establishing a second 787 assembly line in Charleston will expand our production capability to meet the market demand for the airplane,” Boeing CEO Jim Albaugh said in a Bloomberg report. “We’re taking prudent steps to protect the interests of our customers.”

The move is a victory for South Carolina development officials and a loss for those in Washington state, where production is located. Boeing had earlier threatened a machinist union with opening a second production line in South Carolina, UPI reported.

Machinist Local 751 President Tom Wroblewski told reporters that Boeing had betrayed union workers' loyalty.

i lived in SC 3 years each in the '50s and '70s. each time SC lived up to its pleasant southern charm.

i've been here in Seattle since '02 and have seen WA discourage companies from locating here and now the idiots-in-charge have banished one of the golden geese...next in line: Microsoft?

y'all don't know what it's like to live in liberal-controlled WA and please don't learn...I may want to re-establish a relationship with SC

Maybe the union should have a strike! That will save their jobs!

See?

You know the Machinist Union will be down here trying to unionize workers just like, I believe it was the teamsters, did with Mack Truck until they succeeded. Unions should not be alowed to hold elections as often as they want until they achive there goal of unionizing a company. Maybe once every 2 or 3 years should be fair. I would hate to see Boeing follow the same path that Mack Truck did.

Gamecocks versus Clemson

The Gamecocks did surprisingly well against Florida, losing to the No. 1-ranked team by just 10 points compared to last year's 50-point blowout. Does this bode well for the Gamecocks' Nov. 28 showdown against Clemson?

I'm a bot, don't pay attention to my vote.
 Yes, Gamecocks can beat Clemson!
No, Gamecocks are finished this year.
Don't know -- should be close.
