A one-minute radio ad narrated by a Columbia pastor will blanket the airwaves across South Carolina this week thanking Republican U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of Pickens for his leadership on climate change legislation.

The ad was paid for American Values Network, a faith-based issues advocacy group with chapters in nine states. It cost more than $10,000 to produce with a “total saturation” buy in the Palmetto State market and will play on mainstream and Christian radio stations, according to Kristin Williams, who is handling media inquiries for the group.

“All across the globe, climate change is devastating the lives of millions and contributing to political unrest that threatens our national security,” says the Rev. Wiley Cooper in the ad. Cooper is a retired pastor [copy corrected] formerly with College Place United Methodist Church. He says too many politicians believe it’s safer to do nothing. But not Lindsey Graham. “Now more than ever, we need leaders who will look for solutions instead of excuses. Thank you, Senator Graham,” Cooper says.

Graham has taken hits from conservatives in his own party over his support for climate-change legislation. Two county Republican parties in the state have censured him.

Williams says the point of the ad is to help get the South Carolina faith-based community mobilized and behind climate-change legislation that is moving through Congress. The faith-based community in South Carolina is well connected to the national security community, she says, part of which has also been supporting the bill to help get the United States off of its addiction to foreign oil.

The American Values Network also has another South Carolina connection. Former South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Don Fowler is part of its national advocacy committee.

Thank you for your article, but I am no longer Pastor at College Place United Methodist Church. I retired from College Place in June, 2008. The Rev. Wiley B. Cooper, 5314 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC 29203

So the implicit admission in the liberal Christians' advocacy for enviro-fascism is that such beliefs are a matter of faith rather than the search for truth in an open-minded scientific manner?

Graham deserves this praise and more for his persistent and courageous work developing a bill promoting a clean energy economy. Graham's bill would not only improve national security, like this article mentions, it will also do wonders for job creation. With the incentive of a carbon cap, green companies will begin hiring on a massive scale. These industries are going to be the source of high growth in the next decades and the US should be sure to be on board.

I am not a liberal Christian or politically liberal and personally thank Senator Graham for his leadership on climate change.

Aside from my political views I think those who judge those that do something on creation care without gospel understanding are the real hidden theological liberals in our midst. They are those who have truly hidden their lamps.

These are the type of non-believers who have denied their responsibilities in society those who are more comfortable hiding their Christ than sharing him with the world. Such Christians drink judgment on themselves.

Where will you stand when the Lord calls you to account? You can not hide behind those you hate and say look see they prevented me from being the person you demanded. On that day it is your heart that will condemn you. You will not be able to justify yourself before God with your words, in fact your very words of judgment will condemn you. If you are rescued, it will be in the words of the Apostle Paul as one who is rescused from a burning building and it will only be to the glory of Christ that such rescuing comes.

I know I will be fully judged for my actions and words that causes me to tremble. May the Lord prevent me from falling into the pit.

I will not respond, if others take issue with this post.

Do You Support a Sales Tax Increase to Fund the Bus System?

The bus system in the Midlands has long been without a steady source of funding. In November, Richland County residents will vote on a referendum that would raise the sales tax by 1 percent to fund the bus system and other transportation projects. Do you support the sales tax increase?

I'm a bot, don't pay attention to my vote
Yes, this is the best way to fund the bus system.
No, I don't support this tax increase.
 Fund the buses another way.
