Why are cigarettes all of a sudden susceptible to taxation without representation? why is it that construction is constantly being done all over town, yet many roads in columbia have giant pot holes that have been there for years? what do you plan to do about unemployment in our fair city? what can be done about the slow corporate infection of the 5 points area?

i would like to see SPARKLE CLARK as the next mayor...

If you were elected mayor, would you vote for the proposal to increase water and sewer rate to pay for the water/sewer upgrade ? If so, why tear up the main traffic roads that had been resurfaced in the Fall 2009 to get to the water pipes? Also, why were the neighborhood streets not resurfaced while the main streets all over town were resurfaced in the Fall 2009?

Joe Azar should be the next mayor of Columbia. We need to break from 3rd rate attorneys and elect a businessman as mayor.

Finlay could at least make a show of trying not to look like the product of rechristiancan richie-rich greek-boys-will-be-ignorant society. This guy is the tea party type chosen by the SC tea-partiers to destroy the little bit of progress Columbia has made, all in the name of keeping the rich rich and letting the poor die off into obscurity. What's worse is that folks ignorant of political nuance see the name and automatically want to vote for the guy based on his father's tenure. Yeah, that's smart.

Kirkman Nepotism--maybe you should do a little research before you add your comments on here. You're the ignorant one. If you've ever spoken to Kirkman or listened to his priorities for the city, you would not be saying he is part of the "richie-rich greek-boys-will-be-ignorant society". Personally I think it would be a nice change of pace to have someone on city council who can't be bought and completely understands the city's needs. Unlike Benjamin, who has proved that he'll stoop to the lowest of the low for a few $$. Sitting on the board of a pay day lender that preys on the uneducated and poor? Now THAT is, as you say, letting the poor die off into obscurity.

Earlier this month, there were several reports that the City of Columbia and Richland County Unified Fire Service Contract might be in jeopardy. However, an independent study conducted by the University of South Carolina Titled “The Impact of Improved Public Protection Classification Ratings on Homeowners’ Insurance Rates in Richland County” has shown that tax payers save upwards of $5.5 million annually due to lower homeowner’s insurance rates each and every year as a result of having the city and county fire service combined. Do you support that the city and county work to continue this public safety agreement?

Columbia deserves Benjamin. Hope both he and Leona get on the council. Oh, boy!!!
