Gentle revelers, the question, as you pick up this fine rag and ponder your auld-lang-syne-ing options, is the same as when Frank Loesser wrote it way back in 1947: What are you doing New Year’s Eve?
Yes, another year has come and gone, and for most of us, that means one thing: Imbibing copious amounts of alcohol in an attempt to forget the 365 godforsaken days prior ever happened. (For the single among us, it also means trying to ring in the New Year, uh, next to a warm body.) And that, of course, means dolling ourselves up in our Sunday best — or at least what we’ll be proud to wear during the morning’s inevitable hangover — and hitting the town.
But where to take that cup o’ kindness, dear reader? Well, there’s the rub, isn’t it? Do you party down on Main Street at the city’s Famously Hot New Year event? Do you ring in the new year like it’s 1929 with the Dick Goodwin Big Band? Do you drink the night away at Flying Saucer?
In an attempt to help you ring in your new year right, what follows is an as-close-to-comprehensive-as-humanly-possible list of where to party down (and what you’ll be doing there) in celebration of the coming of 2014. We’ve also pulled out a few suggestions for you, too.
So go ahead and forget all that old acquaintance. Just be safe out there, OK? — Patrick Wall
