Under the Radar: Noctambule

July 25 at Conundrum Music Hall

Poetry is at Noctambule‘s heart: The folk duo’s phrasing, presentation and timing all follow the measured meter of written verse, rather than a lyrical flow. Their work falls outside the easy borders of folk revivalism and, rather, plumbs the old-world mystery of Irish folk tales and the liminal weirdness of drunken Paris nights. Guitars and mandolins in all manner of open and oddball tunings complement the harmonies and wordplay, resulting in a vibe that’s eccentric and traditional all at once.
