More Than 1,000 SC Bridges Structurally Deficient

More than 1,000 bridges in South Carolina are structurally deficient, according to an analysis of federal data by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. Nonetheless, Gov. Nikki Haley has vowed to veto any attempt to raise the state’s gas tax to fund transportation projects.

A national litter report by Steve Spacek ranks South Carolina as the dirtiest state in the country. Washington state was ranked the cleanest. The report was released by the American Society of Public Administration. [copy corrected]

South Carolina State University is “a month away from running out of money,” the Times & Democrat reported.

The S.C. Supreme Court shot down a challenge by the state Libertarian Party to the state’s election laws. The Libertarian Party had argued that a new state law would require it to hold a primary; the court ruled that it did not.
