Happy Hour, Sharks, and Poetry

Happy Hour at Tapp’s Art Center

Tomorrow, meet with non-profit Friends of the Tapp’s Art Center for a weekly happy hour from 5-7 pm, this Wednesday August 7th. What better place to go and unwind after a long day at the office? Beer, wine, and music provided, and of course all the amazing locally made art on the walls! Entertainment will be provided by Dr. P (Dr. Scott Padgett, who is currently working with 5 Points Productions. Dr. P is also a contributor to social media and anything within the realm of musical entertainment or production. For more information, visit the facebook event page:
Tapp’s Arts Center is located on Main Street’s revitalized downtown district at 1644 Main Street, corner of Main and Blanding.

SC State Museum Under Construction

This week being Shark week at the State Museum, things are all a bustle with change. See this YouTube video of a large-scale shark being hauled and installed!

Also, the large-scale add-on expansion project is still underway, which will include a 55-foot digital planetarium done, theatre, and more. Visit to see a YouTube video of the work.

Poetry Out Loud Contest

All South Carolina High School teachers are encouraged to participate in the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest. The SC Arts Commission is now accepting registrations for a new year. This only requires partial days of class time to prepare, and competitions will be held September 2013 – May 2014. If selected, the nationals will take place in Washington D.C. with opportunities to win $20,000 in scholarships. Deadline is November 1, 2013. Click here for details:
