School district offers hands on culinary classes

BBQ Basics Class

You’re never too old to learn, and Lexington District Five wants to school the community in high-level cooking skills. Termed “Saturdays @ the Center,” these hands-on classes are in their second year, drawing upwards of 40 people per class. Local experts like Chef Jeff Urso and Shennice Cleckley will serve up their skills and knowledge on a plate for participants to take back to their own kitchens through the district’s Center for Advanced Technical Studies.

This fall’s offerings include:

Barbecue! with Chef Tim Handy, BBQ Pit Master, Sept. 6
Farm to Table with Chef Jeff Urso, Oct. 18
Thanksgiving Ravioli with Chef Jeff Urso, Nov. 15
Holiday Desserts with Chef Shennice Cleckley, Owner of My Dessert Bar, Dec. 13
