Benedict College Police have arrested a man accused of robbing several individuals at gunpoint on Monday.

According to BPD Chief Haywood Bazemore, suspect Janerio Anso Walker, 23, has been arrested and charged with armed robbery. As of Wednesday afternoon, Walker was being held in the Alvin Glenn Detention Center.

Bazemore says the robbery in question happened at about 11 p.m. Monday at the Benedict Community Park, at the corner of Heidt and Laurel. There were reportedly five victims in the robbery, and cellphones, cash, credit cards and other personal items were taken. Walker was identified as the gunman in the case.

The BPD chief says Walker was taken into custody Tuesday night at a gas station on Taylor Street. Bazemore says the Columbia Police Department assisted in Walker’s arrest. Bazemore adds Benedict Police have received information that Walker, who is not a Benedict student, might have gang ties.
