Superintendent of Education Mick Zais now says a rewrite of the state's education standards can take into account the national Common Core standards. Previously, he'd said the Education Oversight Committee must start with the state's previous standards, entirely ignoring Common Core — "We’re going to start with S.C. 2007 standards, Texas standards and a couple of other states, and we’re not even going to have a copy of Common Core state standards in the room for the writing panels," he'd said July 7.
