Plus, Anton Gunn in National Spotlight

Gov. Nikki Haley unveils her executive budget today. Here’s an overview about what’s probably in it, courtesy of The State.

The Daily Beast profiles Anton Gunn, a former South Carolina legislator who went to work for the Obama administration’s health care rollout and is now leaving that post for the private sector.

Federal officials have decided to make volunteer fire departments exempt from the requirement to provide health care coverage under Obamacare. Palmetto State fire departments are cheering the news, WIS reports.

The 2014 lieutenant governor’s race is beginning to shake out. Current Lt. Gov Glenn McConnell announced last week he will not not seek re-election. Republican Pat McKinney appears to be Gov. Nikki Haley’s anointed candidate for the post; he rolled out a campaign committee studded with GOP and business community figures. Democratic Rep. Bakari Sellers, a frequent Haley critic, is also seeking the post. This is the last time the lieutenant governor and governor will run on separate tickets.
