They don't get the same level of media attention as the Gamecock football team, but the University of South Carolina women's basketball team is winning some big games, including a 68-59 victory last night over No. 9 Kentucky at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia. Led by Coach Dawn Staley, the team — ranked No. 10 nationally — is 15-1 overall and 3-0 in the SEC.

In a case involving the 2010 shooting death of a carjacking suspect by police officers in Sumter, the S.C. Supreme Court will decide whether autopsy records are public records subject to Freedom of Information laws, The Associated Press reported.

A 6-year-old boy in Orangeburg was killed by an approaching truck while walking to his school bus; the accident took place a few minutes before sunrise.

Gov. Nikki Haley was given a "D" grade from the Conservation Voters of South Carolina in the group's first report card on the governor. The organization cited lack of action to protect the Edisto River, encourage solar leasing and regulate out-of-state trash as reasons for the low grade.
